Chennai Soap Company Vetiver cold processed soap Review

Rainy days are round the corner and I’m already experiencing it everyday in my bathroom with this lovely earthy cooling vetiver cold processed soap sent by Chennai Soap Company. Hence, back with another soap story😀.

I am more of a soap person & an ardent lover of handmade soaps to be specific(not the commercial synthetic/chemical laden ones). The only times I use a shower gel is when I travel.

CHENNAI SOAP COMPANY is a lovely home brand, that exclusively makes handmade cold processed soaps. When I started interacting with the maker, Sharmeen, her passion for soap making was clear. She calls it her best stress buster😃. It’s a blessing when someone’s profession is their passion. It is a win-win for the maker who indulges in her craft with love & the consumer as the outcome will be desirable💗.

Following is my take on their cold processed Vetiver soap…

Packaging: It comes in a cloth bag with a classy black tag that has all details of the soap tied with a golden thread. Inside is the soap covered in a butter paper cover (instead of a plastic cover that I expected). Brownie points to this luxurious ecofriendly packaging.

Texture: It has soft, creamy and waxy, ready to melt yummy texture. The kind I thoroughly enjoy using.

Color & Fragrance: It is a cream coloured soap with strands of golden color on top for aesthetic purpose. The fragrance is my favorite with a rich earthy Vetiver aroma along with pleasant undertones of oils. It is such a calming  grounding & cooling stress buster aroma.

Ingredients analysis: Chennai soap company claims to use ingredients that are either organically sourced or from wild harvest. On interacting with the brand owner, who was also open to sharing a few sourcing evidences, it seems believable. The ingredients list comprises of distill water, sodium hydroxide which evaporates off and hence, isn’t a part of the end product, along with the following

Olive oil infused in vetiver – Olive oil contains three major antioxidants: vitamin E, polyphenols, and phytosterols. Antioxidants, when topically applied, may help protect the skin from premature skin aging. Vitamin E partly accounts for the anti-aging benefits of olive oil because it helps restore skin smoothness and protects against ultraviolet light. Hydroxytyrosol, a rather rare compound found in olive oil, also prevents free radical damage to the skin. Another one of olive oil’s benefits for skin is its usefulness in exfoliating applications as the deep, penetrating action of the oil, will remove dead skin cells and leave the epidermis looking renewed and glowing.

Coconut oil- The high fat content of coconut oil has been shown to help improve certain skin conditions by healing wounds, reducing rashes and preventing acne. Its anti-inflammatory effect works wonders for soothing skin ailments. Unlike many other oils, coconut oil will not clog pores. Instead, coconut oil hydrates and softens skin as it sinks deep into the cells. Coconut oil also helps to naturally clear away dirt and dead skin cells which allows for a healthier complexion.

Vetiver oil & Ground vetiver- Vetiver has the ability to reduce the appearance of dark spots and other marks on the skin, helping to create a more even skin tone. Vetiver oil is nourishing and hydrating, helping to soothe dry skin. It helps skin appear firmer and more youthful. Like most plant oils, vetiver contains antioxidants, which helps to protect skin from environmental stressors. The earthy scent is an excellent stress buster.

Mica – It is a naturally occurring mineral that is used as a colorant combined with various oxides in organic skincare.

Also, The Chennai soap company Vetiver soap is free of any synthetic chemicals or fragrance.

Efficiency: This cold processed soap is as raw as it can be & resembles a lovely piece of palpeda(a famous sweet in South India)😋. I use it on wet skin directly. It doesn’t lather like a commercial chemical laden soap. I enjoy the subtle milky foam it generates that is soothing & nourishing. It also has strands of raw vetiver roots here & there, that give a very mild everyday exfoliation. It cleans well and keeps skin hydrated, soft & supple. If you switch to using handmade soaps and observe ur skin post 6 months(preferably cold or hot processed ones), you sure will notice the difference in your skin quality, hydration & suppleness. Especially in this soap where the base is olive oil is super nourishing & protective. This 100g soap , when used everyday as a body cleanser, will last for 15 days approx(depending on the water). This is the case with most handmade cold processed soaps who don’t compromise on the quality. So, am ok with this part.

As I have dry body skin, I generally choose moisturising ingredients. Vetiver is known for it cooling and hydrating properties. The aroma is almost my soul scent being a earthy cooling fragrance but it doesn’t linger post bath. Vetiver along with nourishing oils should work for all skin types in all seasons. It also is an excellent soother and helped in keeping the skin clear from any bacne & itching and helps in keeping body odour at bay, to an extent. However, all these can be observed only with prolonged usage.

My Verdict: I have used many high end soaps & there are very few soaps in the market with this quality. Chennai Soap Company’s creations are a must try!
