Skincandy is a green beauty brand, curated by Divya Menon, who is also a model & an actor,  that claims to be plant based & vegan, cruelty free & sustainably sourced, made & delivered. When it comes to clean beauty, it’s either certification or trust. Figuring out authentic home brands that donot have a certification is a real challenge because with increasing awareness of the toxic synthetics, there are n no. Of brands in the name of natural/herbal formulations.

When I came across Skincandy, I had my usual doubts and with Divya, all my questions had a straight forward black & white answer, including pros & cons. Not sure if she is aware of the existence of sumthing called grey, lol😂. She is also one who is ready to answer every question about her formulation but again, when all of it are clearly mentioned in her website under each product, U won’t have the need for the same. So, my intuition gave me a go ahead! Read on to know my take on Skincandy’s Cleopatra clarifying facial soap…

Packaging: It comes in a paperboard signature carton. It is simple, classy & makes a statement. The soap inside was rolled up in a delicate butter paper like material. Not sure of this but definitely not plastic. The packaging is 100% biodegradable.

Texture: It is soft, cakey & creamy. It is delicate yet sturdy. Yummm is the word that aptly describes the texture!

Color & Fragrance: It is pale offwhite in color & this variant is unscented. Though there is no prominent fragrance, I noticed & liked the subtle smell of the lovely ingredients it is formulated with. My noise is my top performer👃🏽😅

Ingredients Analysis: It comprises of some lovely oils, butters & clays(check above list) that are capable of delivering some real goodness to the skin. It also has colloidal oatmeal which helps in clarifying the complexion. It is free of any synthetic chemicals and the ingredients are claimed to be all natural & plant based.

Cleopatra variant is fragrance free & offwhite but In general Skincandy soaps are colourful & appreciate that the brand has made sure to list the source of the same in the ingredient list too. Hardly a brand does this!

Efficiency: This soap resembles a pure milk sweet (we call it milk beda in South India. I’m sorry about comparing a vegan soap to a milk sweet, but couldn’t get a better one). I had a hard time playing the hand & mouth game. Too tempting it was😋.

The Cleopatra soap, rightly named after an epitome of beauty definitely performs! I use it on wet skin directly. It is a cold processed soap that has a subtle milky foam, the kind I love. It is designed for facial skin & hence is ideally formulated for delicate skin I guess. It is so nourishing & soothing. It has a combo of oils, butters & clay and hence should suit all skin types. It is quite hydrating & balances sebum but if U have a dry parched skin & are looking for a soap that is moisturising enough, this may not be the one for you. May be it has more of a clay base🤔. Not sure on this part. However, they have a wide range of soaps & one can check with the brand and choose as per needs. This 140 g is fairly large and can be cut into two to avoid wastage. When used for face alone, it should last for atleast two months. For everyday body bath, it will last for 15-20 days depending on the water. This is the case with most cold processed soaps who don’t compromise on quality and hence am happy with this part. It also helps in keeping bacne & itching at bay, which I’m prone to, in Summers.  It made my skin comparatively softer & smoother from day 1 to day 10 of use. I could touch & feel the difference. About the clarifying claim, I can’t decide in short time but observing the subtle healthy glow that it imparts, it seems promising.

MY VERDICT: There is something unique about this soap, the formula is topnotch & very few soaps in the market are this good!
